some clouds rain in the forecast
Teach a dinghy to fish and ... ... the hard part is to teach the dinghy to let you know when it's caught a fish so that you can share it while it's fresh.

What a difference a day makes -- Monday night was pretty miserable: hot and humid and then rain not cooling off at all until around midnight and then rolly and hot most of the night. Last night the temps cooled off around sunset and the humidity seemed to break a bit and it was actually kind of pleasant with temps around 80 degrees at 1930. Overcast and raining this morning. I just called my French tutor and told her I'd be late because of the rain. Hard to get in the dinghy when it's raining and then there's the three block walk after you get ashore and waiting for a bus -- all in the rain. Better to wait and see if it passes.

Renewed the coast guard documentation for the boat yesterday. Hard to believe it's already been a year since Vicki took care of all the applications and I received the USCG certificate of documentation.

So far the solar panels and the frig have been working well. When it's sunny, particularly mornings, they easily replace all of the energy used overnight while keeping up with demand during the day. On a couple of occasions, the monitor has flashed full around four in the afternoon. I had to remove the shade cover over the main boom since it was also shading the panels -- without it they keep up if it's sunny (even though the cabin is now two or three degrees warmer). With all the clouds yesterday they're a bit behind this morning and I may have to run the engine this evening.

Starting to explore using CopperCoat antifouling to redo the boat bottom. Talked to some people on the net this morning who were able to secure a good price for the kits and are putting together a shipment from England.

The new small pressure cooker I picked up in Annapolis has been great. So far I've made risotto, two batches of pea soup, and pumpkin ginger soup. It's easy to store and makes just enough for a meal or two. Spicy bean dip for dinner last night and a broccoli stir-fry over rice (perhaps with chicken) tonight.

The boat's name comes from a poem by Robinson Jeffers: Evening Ebb The ocean has not been so quiet for a long while; five nightherons Fly shorelong voiceless in the hush of the air Over the calm of an ebb that almost mirrors their wings. The sun has gone down, and the water has gone [...]
