MDI Anniversary Cruise
06 June 2010 | Mount Desert Island
Spring came early to the coast of Maine and after only two weeks of hard work making sure to check everything off the list Evergreen splashed into Round Pond on the 22nd of May. We spent the next few days outfitting her and sailed off on the 27th with fair winds and light seas, perfect for the cruising kitties. We made a stop over in Long Cove, Tenants Harbor and Burnt Coat on Swans Island before settling in at Northeast Harbor at MDI. We were married at the top of Cadillac Mt. over Memorial Day weekend so decided this would be a great way to celebrate our Anniversary, and it was. The only hitch was that the park buses don't operate until the 24th of June so we didn't get in our hike to the summit. We did go to the Thuya and Asticou gardens, they are lovely any time of year and this was perfect timing for the azaleas. Our sail back was in more normal Maine springtime conditions, big seas(by kitty standards), very little wind, and visibility in fog less than 1/4 nm. Two days of that is good training to cruise in Maine, playing with all electronics including the new Navionics app on my iphone. We didn't see many other boats on the water or in the harbors but we that will soon change. Excellent shake down cruise and soon we will be back on the water.
