Car Rally round Roatan

26 January 2010
Lori
We decided to rent a car. Initially it was for yesterday but a unexpected cold front came further south than anyone predicted and the winds switched to come from the west. All the dive boats, except one small one with two divers kept to the docks. We put our second anchor out and took our dinghy in with the four of us and tried to tie to the dock. There was a huge swell and the dinghy would most likely have been damaged. As I had booked the car with only a phone call and my first name we called to cancel. We dried off got new clothes and ate blueberry pancakes on my parents boat instead. We tried again today and were lucky to get a car and drove around the island. My dad didn't bring his license and Scott didn't want to drive so I volunteered. It was the smallest cheapest car that four adults could fit into, a Suzuki Alto. I haven't drove for almost two years and luckily I remembered how to drive a standard. I had to be reminded to drive a little more slowly while corniering around the twisting roads.
We visited two couples that my parents have befriended over the years. One was taking professional photographs at one of the top resorts and we were able to check out this super motor yacht Mr. Terrible, google it as it has won awards. Then we drove to their other set of friends who have built their house straddling the ridge of Roatan and they have incredible views of both sides of the island. The weather was cloudy today so the pictures won't be that great. Will try diving again tomorrow.
