Still windy and we are staying, plus thanks to Dan

It has been a hectic few weeks. We had the issue with the exoneration paperwork and the National Car Reantal overcharge and then need for a survey for new insurance.

Varnish and condo time !

The cabin sole has been beginning to show some real wear and the companionway door was looking like it should have used a lot more sun screen, so it was time to get ready to varnish.

Mess -> hotel stay

Now that we know we are going to stay here in Papagayo Marina for the summer we went to work on some chores.

We got the exoneration paperwork !

Yes, it is April Fools' Day, but we don't think it is a joke.

No bad faith contract needed ?

We finally got our misappropriated Marina Papagayo National Car Rental refund. That only took almost a month and a lot of reminders and an angry complaint letter. Talk about substandard service !

Cultural whiplash

This is another surprising turn of events. We're almost getting whiplash !

Worst sail we have ever had

20 January 2015 | San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
We're sitting in a beachfront restaurant in San Juan del Sur,  Nicaragua,  with WiFi.

The sail from Puesta del Sol towards here was the worst sail we've ever had.  Senta wanted to be a submarine much of the time as we were beating close hauled under just reefed jib into 35+ knot winds and seas,  despite straying no more than 4 NM from the coast.  When we were 10 NM from an anchorage called Del Gigante we still seriously considered turning around and going back the 110 NM to Puesta del Sol,  but we didn't.

We sailed into the never before seen (by us) anchorage in the pitch black two hours after sunset.  After circling inside the anchorage under sail trying to find a bottom less than 60' deep and trying to not run down any of the fishing pangas and trying not to find the 5-6 reported rocks we finally anchored in 55' of water with 225' of chain out.

In the morning we started dragging and in about 15 minutes we'd managed to get the engine started by using WD40 as starter fluid.  Phew.  We motored in to about 30' of water and this time we could back down on the anchor !  We stayed there until two days ago,  checking in with the Pan Pacific net every morning.  The weather sux but we finally decided to try to make a go of it after we'd re-tightened fuel line couplings and changing out the o-rings in the fuel filter.

It took us three hours to motor from Del Gigante to San Juan del Sur and the Pan Pacif net was right when they pointed out that San Juan del Sur would be windier than Del Gigante.  Yesterday was our first full day here and we were looking forward to a shore-run but we didn't dare leave Senta in the howling winds,  We had lots of gusts over 35 knots and the weather station claimed one gust of 63 knots.  This was not relaxing at all ,  quite the opposite.

Our 66 pound Mr. Bruce did his job and Senta never budged despite the swinging back and forth.

This am we put out another 50' of chain so now we have 200' in 25-30 feet of water and we called the shore-boat.

Laundry dropped off,  won't be ready until tomorrow because the water is shut off to the city for the day ?

The 7th ATM honored our USAA card and gave us some cash.  Now we are eating a huge fish breakfast and catching up on stuff :-)
