In the Keys
05 March 2013 | No Name Harbor, Key Biscayne
Joannie/sunny and warm!
Sunday morning we left our anchorage in North Palm Beach and went offshore for an incredible day of sailing and filming. (A pod of dolphins joined us for the better part of an hour!) It was such a treat to see those sails up again in the Florida sunshine as we paralleled the eastern coast of Fl in clear marine blue water! It doesn't get any better than this! By late afternoon we arrived in Fort Lauderdale via the Port Everglade inlet, motoring past the huge cruise ships to our anchorage in Lake Sylvia. Fort Lauderdale is the "venice of Florida" -a myriad of waterways with huge homes and "huger" yachts!
We left Monday morning and went offshore for another day, but with not enough wind to make it worth putting up the sails. So we motored down the coast and rounded Cape Florida (southern tip of Key Biscayne). Our plan was to anchor in "No Name Harbor" - a secluded, fully protected lagoon in Bill Baggs State Park. This state park makes up the southern 1/3 of Key Biscayne, in contrast to the highly developed northern 2/3. However, we weren't the only ones with that destination in mind. When we cruised around the No Name we decided it was a bit too crowded so we anchored just outside in the lee of the state park.
This morning we weighed anchor c. 9 am and moved into the already thinned-out anchorage. Our next destination will be Key Largo and the winds look good for us to make that off shore passage on Thurs. So we will stay here for 2 more nights and do some hiking in the state park.
