Moving Along Through Indo

Picked up a mooring here at 1830 yesterday evening after passing through the reef entrance in low light. Never a relaxing exercise for yours truly but we had been in here before in 2011 when we were heading north to Thailand.

JAYAPURA TO SORONG
A particularly foreboding coast. An occasional native fishing boat but nothing else. High peaks on shore from which big rivers flow out of the jungle dumping small islands of quite large drifting trees into the sea. No settlements insight. Squalls coming down out of the highlands in the middle of the night. Currents. Reefs. Not relaxing. We stopped one night out of Jayapura at a small pulau in a decent anchorage. We were visited after dark by a longboat filled with men. Friendly enough but not comforting all the same. We moved on the next morning. Between Biak and the main island we experienced a couple of decent squalls. We pushed on to Sorong without stopping. We arrived there about mid-day. Sorong is a bustling harbor. Some nice live aboard dive boats base out of Sorong for trips up to the Raja Ampat. We obtained our permits to visit Raja Ampat in Sorong. We also were able to get decent fuel by Indonesia standards off the fuel barge moored just to the north of town. There is a good grocery store in Sorong as well as some good restaurants. We spent two nights in Sorong before heading north for Raja Ampat, a place of much rumored beauty above and below the surface of the briny deep.
