Moving Along Through Indo

Picked up a mooring here at 1830 yesterday evening after passing through the reef entrance in low light. Never a relaxing exercise for yours truly but we had been in here before in 2011 when we were heading north to Thailand.

Raja Ampat (catch-up)

04 February 2012 | Indonesia
Picture for a moment just north of the equator, steep sided rock formations, some forming peaked islands, jutting up from the depths of the South Pacific. They break the surface in clusters. Between them the tides surge over reefs and into crystal clear bays filled with the some of the world’s richest and diverse reefs and coral formations.
Excellent snorkeling. Beaches with coral sand so deep and so fine that you sink in over your ankles. No other boats in sight. We anchored in the lagoon of Wayag Island in the very north of the Raja Ampat reserve. Full moon, clear skies, and clearer water. Deep water with strong current washing between the rock islands.
We climbed to the top of Wayag for a better view of our surroundings. A rugged climb/scramble up a steep limestone pitch.
You could hang here for many a day but alas we had to continue on our way through Indonesia. We point our bow in a southerly direction bound for Flores in East Nusa Tengara.
A stopover at Raja Ampat is worth the effort and the miles.
