South on the Hudson River

We left Catskill, NY this morning at 7:50 am and caught the ebb until about 11:00 am. At times we had 9.3 kts SOG. It was a cloudy and cool day, but the beauty of the Hudson River were still obvious. Once the tidal flow started we only slowed about 1 - 1.2 kt so we arrived at West Shore Marina about 12:30 pm to 17 kt winds and a rising tide.
Once docked this place was quite rock'n rollin' today with 15-20 kt N and NW winds pounding against the tidal flow. This is a well worn marina, but the location allows for deep draft boats with 45'+ lengths. They even managed to squeeze in an oil change for me today. The location is the best we could do today as we wanted a location close to Hyde Park where Marjorie has a good friend who we managed to have cocktails and dinner with tonight. Tomorrow at noon , while the Cocks and Dawgs are going at it in Columbia, SC, we'll be having lunch at the CIA (Culinary Institute of America).
We'll leave here Sunday, weather permitting, and head to a NYC area marina for a day or 2.

A couple photos taken by Tom Jones (original owner of Far Niente when it was Christiana) Tom was on a fall delivery on a Grand Banks Eastbay 38 from the Great Lakes to Annapolis. On a very windy, cool early Sunday morning 50 miles north of Annapolis, they were motoring south on the Chesapeake at 23 kts and just happened to spot us exiting the Sassafras River headed for Annapolis for the sailboat show. What are the odds? A chance but great encounter none the less.
