I recommend getting the loaner car and eating at M & M's, where the locals eat. Its located across from the docks at Oriental.
This port is a real working fishing port - very rare.

George, the asst. Dockmaster, used to play college ball. The assistant assistant dockmaster was an engineer, consulting with COE, and lived full time on the boat. He showed Charley how to snag dollar bills with a boathook from the water.
We spent 3 nights waiting for the northly winds to let up so we could cross the Albermarle.

It was great fun to watch the fishermen when they came in at the end of the day with their catch. Everyone converged at the4 tiki bar at the end of our dock.
