After 2 summers and 1 winter in Alaska and Canada we are excited to set course south via Sanfrancisco to Ensenada Mexico where we will leave the boat in the marina to go to Amsterdam for 2 months. Our Dutch friends Johan & Jacqueline Gesink fly into Vancouver to join us for the passage to Sanfrancisco. We visit Victoria on the southern point of Vancouver Island from where Johan&Jacq take the ferry into the US ( they are not allowed to enter the US on a private boat without a VISA ) . We join again on the US-side and after a hike in the lush forest of Olympic park we check out in Port Angeles. It takes approx 5 days to sail to SF with light to moderate winds and too much motoring. We enjoy dolphins at the bow and whales around the boat . At night you cannot see a jumping whale yet you can hear the loud bang when it crashed onto the surface close by. Quite frightening !
Crossing under the Golden Gate bridge is an epic moment. Our friends from the yacht Flora take pictures . We drop anchor in aquatic park right in front of downtown SanFrancisco . We have a few more memorable days with Johan&Jacq in SF. We rent bikes and cross the bridge, visit wineries in Napa valley, and enjoy the local cioppino fishstew at restaurant Sotto Mare . What a treat after the mostly fastfood restaurants up north. We thank Johan&Jacqueline for great company and enjoyable moments.
In SF we also meet Jeroen's old Dutch friend Onne Borius Broek who is living in Sanfrancisco ( Tiburon) for 35 years. Old memories pass when Onne and his wife Cheril treat us on drinks and a delicious dinner at their beautiful home overlooking the bay and the Goldengate bridge.
