Thirty-third day out
01 June 2013 | 09 21.12'S:158 28.38'W, At Penrhyn in morning, then on route to Suwarrow
Kevin, Rick, Pauline, Sue & Peter
A swim! and a scrubbing for the hull, to remove the tenacious barnacles that had attached themselves since the last scrub in Marina del Rey. Also took opportunity to remove old port insignia (San Francisco) in preparation of the Geelong letters taking pride of place on her transom. Right now though, we are as good as pirates, with no home port labelling us as yet!
A quick wifi run at the beautiful local school (see photo) was generously enabled by the principal, Tyrone, who harkens from Ascot Vale, Melbourne, and was quick to offer first Pauline, then Peter, teaching contracts: hmmm!!! Food for thought! Absolutely blown away by the generosity of the locals, we gathered what few provisions we could spare and tried to fill as many requests as we could - flour, magazines, & a spare rubber for a Hawaiian sling. Cans of peas & instant macaroni & cheese also found their way ashore. Alas, we had no beer (the most common request), and their next supply ship due in over a month. Mama Navee loaded our dingy with bananas and coconuts, and made us each a beautiful shell necklace, hand-woven, to remember Penrhyn. We weighed anchor at 1500 & set our course for Suwarrow. Rain squalls late evening.
