The new Pavilion...
Put a bunch of cruisers together with some "building supplies" and what do you get? A Pavilion! Bill of Puddle Jumper is a builder and has done most of the designing of the structure. Bill of Veranda has done most of the actual construction with many others helping.
It's on the beach at Hog Cay in the Ragged Island. It's the main gathering spot for cruisers, and is the closest anchorage to Duncan Town. We use it for a lot of activities and now it has shade. It's quite a remarkable structure considering all the materials have been collected from the windward beaches. You have to wonder where all the bamboo comes from. Of course you could possibly build a structure out of shoes and flip flops that wash up on the beaches, too.
The other side of the float
It will be interesting to see how the Pavilion fares during hurricane season. Most of us have hung floats with the names of our boats for decorations. I'm sure some of you think that we have too much time on our hands, but most of the work is done after the day's chores, project, and hunting/fishing trips.
It makes the place rather civilized. We have tables, benches, and multiple burning pits. There are at least three events per week at the pavilion. It handles everything from trash burns to BBQs and cocktail parties. Pretty cool actually...
