We Finally Caught a Mahi

25 March 2012 | 24 13.088'N:75 24.165'W, Old Bight, Cat Island
Steve
We finally caught a Mahi. Our luck hasn't been too good this year for trolling. We got a Blackfin Tuna a while back, but nothing for quite a while. We moved from Calabash Bay on Long Island to Cat Island this morning. The trip is 30 miles in deep (4,000+ ft.) water.

So out the lures go. You really never know what you're going to get, if anything. About halfway there the reel takes off! A few minutes later, we pull in a nice Bull Mahi. We had two other hits, but didn't get them hooked up. It was a good day for fishing. Not too calm, and not too rough. We are anchored in the Bight of Cat Island and will move tomorrow to the north part of the Bight to weather a frontal passage.

Tonight we dine on fresh Mahi. We're just trying to figure out how we want it fixed, and what to have with it. Such decisions. See what I mean, we have lots of issues to deal with while cruising.

Wow, that's a lot of laundry

We had a good time on Long Island, as we always do. We re-provisioned, did laundry, and enjoyed ourselves at the Long Island Breeze. It's a neat resort that is very friendly to cruisers. The owners, Mike and Jackie are great friends.

We'll let you know what we think of Cat Island.
