Traffic Jam going South
22 October 2015 | Coinjock
We departed from zero mile marker of the ICW this morning at 08are in North CarolinaT he first railroad bridge was under construction sand only opened at 9-12 and 3. Needless to say a there was many boats backed up waiting for the bridge to open. Once it opened it was a dash south. We survived but it was inertesting to think of all the rush hour car jams in LA, Chicago and Washington DC and here we are in a rush hour boat jam. comparing the two I prefer the rush hour boat jam. It was a lot of first for the Finisterre today. We successfully made it under a 65 foot high fixed bridge and only touched the end of our radio ate a at the top of the mast. We went through a lock and gained 3 -4 feet in elevation and the finally was pulling into Coinjock Marina and restaurant. At mile marker 5 we have a choice to go south on the Virginia cut or go through dismal swamp. We choose the VA cut. Coin jock marina is famous but very remote marina. We also had the world famous prime rib. We fueled up and are ready to go early tomorrow. We should be in Oriental in 2 days. Tomorrow we head south to the Aligator river. We met some new friends Fred and Lynda. They are headed to the Abacoas.
