Life at Staniel Cay

Ralph
We have not moved since dropping Chelsea off at the airport on Tues morning and the weather has been perfect. Because there has been no wind, we figured the fisherman would be out so we went over to the government dock and found them cleaning their catch. On Tuesday they only got lobsters (Crawfish) and Conch - Huge Conch. I went back again on Wednesday and they brought back a Sh*t load of fish with them. Lots of Triggers, some Angels (I had never seen keep them before) and Hog Fish which is what we wanted. He had at least a dozen Hog fish in various sizes, which we took three off of his hands. 1 for us and 2 for Cats Paw. I cut our fish up and it will make three meals for us. We pan fried it in some olive oil last night and it was Delicious. We are having it again tonight.

I really enjoy going down to the dock when they are cleaning their catch. When Sandy comes in, a couple of locals show up immediately. Some of them look like people that don't have alot and are looking to get first crack at the by-product from cleaning the catch. The lobster heads are the most prized item, but the parts that are cut off from cleaning the conch are also sifted through and pieces recovered. Different locals will come by to see what Sandy had got and to see if they wanted anything. All thought the Bahamians speak English, when they talk amongst themselves, I understand about 25% of the conversation. But as soon as they talk to an outsider they immediately revert back to speaking english that I understand.

Karen's sister Lori is coming for a visit on Feb 2 - it should be great fun. We are planning on taking them down to the Farmers Cay festival and then to some of our favorite snorkeling spots. If anybody else is thinking about coming for a visit, let us know.

This picture is for you Derrick - a huge lion fish we saw in the Exuma land and sea park
