Epoxy - my new best friend

29 September 2010 | Shelter Bay Marina, Panama
Ralph
Besides the shrouds, we have had a fairly easy time of (so far) getting the boat ready. We had a bunch of projects that were all pretty small and got completed without any problems. The windlass was acting up, but I took it apart, cleaned it all up and presto, everything works great again.

A couple of our battens has some cracks in them, so instead of getting new ones, I decided to use my G-Flex Epoxy to fix them up. And it did a great job and I think they are stronger than before. What convinced me that this stuff is a miracle product, is I watched a video online where they took a plastic kayak, cut it in half with a chain saw and then used this G-Flex epoxy to put it back together. And then proceeded to test how strong the join was. It was amazing. I now try to use it on everything. There was a plastic bracket that holds a fan to the wall that crumbled into a bunch of pieces - no problem, good as new. We have a screen door and the screen was ripping at the top and bottom. We stitched it together and with a light coating of epoxy its all fixed up. But my favorite job so far has been my electric shaver. It is a Braun which has a metal foil on the business end of it. The foil developed a small tear in it and it would cut my face. So a few days ago when I had a batch mixed up, I put a small dab over the cut and presto - shaver fixed. I thought of this story while I was shaving this morning.

We had planned to go into Panama City today, but the hotel we wanted to stay at was all booked up. So we will go in for the weekend - Leave Friday and come back on Monday. The first night we are staying at a B&B and there is nature reserve right beside it. I am hoping we can see some of the local creatures - especially a sloth. I saw one in June when we were driving down the highway and I would like to see one close up.
