Our first howler monkeys and a UFO?

07 October 2010 | Shelter Bay Marina, Panama
Ralph
We had a pretty slow day here yesterday. The highlight was a walk we took in to the San Lorenzo national park. We first saw a money sitting in a tree - not sure what kind it was, but he did not seem to be afraid of us. A little farther down the road, I spotted what I first though was some kind of next in a tree. But upon closer inspection you could see that this "ball" was hanging from the tree by a couple of arms. We concluded that it was a sloth sleeping. We made lots of noise to try to get a reaction out of it, but nothing. Later that day, somebody confirmed that indeed that it was a Sloth. The picture is kind of blurry as I had to zoom it in.

We also had a couple of fleeting glimpses of a couple of toucans. We could hear the howler monkeys further up the road and pretty soon came across 3 or 4 of them. These guys were pretty skittish, and kept moving around, so we did not get any good pictures, but they sure make a lot of noise.

Last night at around 8:20 we were sitting outside when Karen noticed a bright streak in the sky just to the north of us. It was very bright - a white light with greenish glow. It lasted for 3 or 4 seconds and the streak of light was wide. Neither on of us has ever seen anything like this. IMHO, I am guessing it was something that was burning up as it entered the atmosphere. Maybe space junk or a meteorite - but it was pretty cool.
