Loving Portobello

19 October 2010 | Portobello, Panama
Ralph
We had pulled into Portobello thinking we would stay one night and then head on to Linton and then on to the San Blas. In fact on Sunday morning we were planning on leaving that day, but by chance we turned on the VHF radio and discovered that they was a cruisers net at 9:00am run by a cruiser friendly bar called Captain Jacks. And they were having pot luck that afternoon. So we decided to go and check it out and we have not left since. We have run into numerous boats that we have met before and we have been really enjoying being back in the cruising mode. We keep planning on leaving tomorrow and when tomorrow has not come yet. This morning we have decided to stay for the conclusion of the festival which ends on Thursday. The highlight is Thursday evening when they take the Black Christ statue out on a parade around town and people who have come to pay there respects, come crawling on there hands and knees into town. We have also been told that during the parade "Miracles" often occur!!!

The sun has come out for the last few days and it is beautiful around here when the sun is shining. Yesterday we took a dingy ride up a river at the end of the bay. We did not see any wildlife, but the scenery is beautiful.

There appears to be lots of fish in the bay as we see them churning around all the time in "feeding frenzies" . There are always locals paddling around in dugout canoes fishing and the pelicans are constantly fishing around us.
