Yesterday was the final day of the festival and the busiest. There was a constant stream of crawling along the road making their way to the church all day. The streets were packed with people and many of them were wearing purple - from t-shirts to extravagant robes. They estimated 20,000 people were in town for this event. Its pretty hard to comprehend what was going on. It is obviously a major experience for some of the people. But there was a LOT of beer being drunk and I saw a number of people that were crawling along and then stopping for a beer and smoke break.
We are planning on leaving this afternoon and heading 12 miles further east to Isla Grande and then the next day to the San Blas. We have met some real nice people here and have enjoyed Captain Jacks. We met a boat from Yellowknife called Dutch Dreamer. Carol and Greg are cruising with their two teen age sons (Very nice young men) and are originally born and raised in Manitoba. We really enjoyed their company and it was fun exchanging stories about both our cruising life and life way back growing up in rural Manitoba. They are planning on going through the canal and then have to decide which way they are going to go.
