What a welcome!
19 January 2011 | Coco Bandero's islands, San Blas, Panama
Ralph
We hung out another day at Salardup and did another snorkel on the awesome reef we had found the previous day. We got one crab and Karen found a real nice Conch. Yesterday we picked up anchor early and sailed back over to Nargana to get some gasoline and supplies. We ended up staying for lunch which turned out to be a 2 hour ordeal. They must have 8 tables at the restaurant, but they only have one burner and they ran out of gas while they were cooking our lunch.
From Nargana, we decided to check out the Coco Bandero islands which are only 5 miles from Nargana. We have arranged for a boat that is coming from Panama to bring us some provisions and we need to meet up with him at the "swimming pool" in the Holandes in a few days. The Coco's are on the way to the Holandes Islands and the weather is pretty settled, so we thought we would check them out. Its a beautiful place, but the anchorage is tight and there are quite a few boats here. We took a narrow entrance into the islands and so we were both scouting for coral heads to avoid and just as we were coming in, a Eagle Ray jumped 4 feet out of the water right beside us. We both saw the whole thing - very cool. While having our dinner in the cockpit last night we heard another one jump right behind us. A couple of days ago a boat we know, was coming in to Cambombia to anchor and witnessed a 12ft hammerhead shark chase, catch and devour an eagle ray.
We are planning on going out snorkeling with Salange today. They have been here quite a bit and know all they great spots.
