VC-17 in saltwater.....sucks!

19 February 2013 | Marathon, FL - Boot Key Harbor
vdstein@hotmail.com
We had the boat pulled yesterday to clean the bottom before taking off to The Bahama's in a couple weeks.. What a mess! The Interlux dealer told me that the VC-17 would be fine in salt water.....he lied! The pictures are with only about 4 months of growth in salt water. Last week we went around the boat with a scraper and cleaned as far as we cloud reach from the dink, but as you can see, wasn't very far. Coming into the marina from the anchorage, I could only get 2 knots out of the boat! We decided to have the bottom completely stripped and a hard bottom paint applied. As always, one thing leads to another.....cutlass bearing, rudder bearing, and prop shaft seal.......there goes the budget!. Tim and Barb, sailing buddies from Andini in Bayfield will be here later today, as will Bob and Eileen from Ghost Rider, also from Bayfield will be here also. Bob is on his way to Key West and probably will just stay for a beer or two before moving on. Tim and Barb will be staying for about a week....Should be a fun time. The weather here has been cold and rainy for the last week, but is suppose to clear up and warm up this week. We're in a motel until the boat is done, hopefully by the end of the week....TTFN.
