07 December 2013 | La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Mexico
Donna
I just finished reviewing my Facebook page and see that it is snowing in Astoria. While I absolutely love the warm weather here in Mexico, I kinda miss the snow. Especially during the Christmas season. I know. Call me loco.
We have been in La Cruz since November 22 and have the slip reserved for 6 weeks, so we have some time to stay around here and enjoy this small town and all the activities that are going on. You’d think that I’d be better at updating the blog, but it’s not that simple. We don’t always get Internet on the boat and we may not be available to get on the computer when it is up. We have to walk and//or ride the bus to everything and that takes time. To go into Puerto Vallarta on the bus takes at least an hour each way, so it feels like an all day excursion when we do go. Plus, I’ve still been unable to find someone to repair the Apple laptop. So enough with the excuses. I’m here now.
We had a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner at a little German restaurant (Black Forest) in this small Mexican village. How’s that for diverse. The portions were generous and delicious. The day prior we had celebrated our 48th anniversary, so that was special also.
I’ve been following the Seattle Seahawks’ progress. Even though I don’t always get to see the game I check up on it later. Looking forward to watching the next game on Sunday. There are several restaurants that will be televising football games.
We haven’t been able to find a church to attend, which has me a little sad. There are dozens of Catholic churches but none that are non-denominational. I do miss not having the fellowship with other Christians. So be praying for me to find a church.
However, I believe I’ve found something exciting and worthwhile to do. One of the local restaurants puts on a Christmas party for all the children in the village and hands out Christmas gifts. We’ve already purchased a few small toys and are going to offer to volunteer to help out with the event.
It just doesn't feel like Christmas here. It's really not anywhere like the retail frenzy it is in the States. Although I have a couple of Christmasy decorations up in the boat we, of course, don't have a Christmas tree. I really miss everyone at home, especially this time of the year. Take care of yourselves. We love you all.
