got up early this AM and went to the church in the middle of town. Simple, white tile and wood benches, open to the outside with no glass or doors. Really pretty combination of polynesian rhythm and chant, along with the recognizable Catholic order of service; had at the same time a warmth and solemnity to it. Also a slight twang of contemporary Christian which usually annoys me but worked with the polynesian guitar/voice leaders. Great voices, including the congregation... All in polynesian and some French so I understood none of it including the effusive greetings at the end, during which I might have agreed to convert to Catholicism.

Afterward went to sunday brunch at hotel on top of the hill above the bay, quite a slog on the bike in increasing heat; for $35 it was an OK buffet and I went to town on it. As I was paying the server clarified that it's actually $35 for the whole day, like including lunch. I was too full to carry on right away but, as those of you who've worked in the pharmaceutical business know, there's not much doctors won't do for free lunch. So at 1230 in the heat of the day I pounded back up the hill and made sure I got my money's worth.

Big day tomorrow, as I hope to get some hard timeframe from Vincent and know what I'm up against.
