Good weather soon to come ?

10 November 2006
?
We have covered about 170 miles in the last 24 hours. The weather has been shitty, rain ?on and off, cold and sometimes foggy. The good news is we crossed the Gulf Stream, ?which was a real challenge because of its movement north. It seems we have little ?interaction between the crew because the seas are rough and when you are not up on the ?helm you are below sleeping. So much for worrying about boredom. We can hear the ?other racers but we can not see them. We hear and see lots of Navy traffic. Our VHF ?squawks with calls from Navy War Ships warning us of their position and speed and we ?see fighters flying to Langley Air Force base of the coast.
?
Every night and every morning we call in our position at 7:00 AM. On the blog we set ?up a second link so you can see our position in relation to the other boats on the ?Carib1500. We have not been eating much of the $600 worth of food we packed in every ?corner of the boat. We are all worried about getting seasick.
?
As we went into night the seas calmed down and the temperature got warmer, we had ?passed the Gulf Stream. It was a beautiful night Jason and Doug had the early watch ?under a full moon, listening to the stones on our totally excellent sound system. I had the ??12:00 until 6:00 with Alan. We finally got to take of our rain gear which we had not ?taken off since the start.
?
I am sure tomorrows bring calm seas and warm air and a day of showers, eating some ?food, and cleaning the boat.
?
As for the 70-boat fleet, some have started dropping out because of the sea conditions. ?They have lost sails, which get ripped, medical emergencies (Coast Guard coming with a ?helicopter to take off a guy that can not pee, and crew problems, guy is nuts.

Best Regards,
