Round the Cape
19 March 2010 | La Parguera, Puerto Rico
Brian
We pulled anchor at 2:00am to take advantage of the night lee. The high mountains of the island create the night lee. During the nighttime the warm mountains push up the trade winds and leave the ocean somewhat calm. We slowly motored out of the bay towards the south-west end of the island. As we approached the Cape the winds were blowing 20 knots and we were sailing as close to the wind as possible. We needed to get to a safe anchorage before 8:00am in the morning before the trades really picked up. As we rounded the Cape the winds died down a little and we motored though an area loaded with breaking reefs....
After six hours we anchored back in the mangroves protected from the afternoon trades and swell. La Parguera is a nice small town with a number of boats advertising to take you to the Bioluminescent Bay. Nancy & I decide to book a trip, which leaves at 7:00pm...we are excited to be together at night on a boat without having to be at the helm.... We toured the town and checked out the amazing cottages floating on the water. We had a romantic time seeing the bioluminescence at night...wow what a beautiful site seeing the ocean light up.
We had to move along the south coast of Puerto Rico very early in the morning and be in a bay before 9:00 or 10:00am... because the trades are on our nose..
