Rough Night
03 March 2009 | Punta Leona, Costa Rica

We woke up in Bahia Ballena with strong winds and building seas making our anchorage very uncomfortable. As soon as the sun came up we pulled anchor and headed across the Golfo de Nicoya. It is only a 22-mile crossing but the wind was blowing a good 20 knots. We were able to sail across the gulf making good time. We arrived in Bahia Leona, which has a beautiful beach and looked very jungley from the boat. We stayed on the boat for the rest of the day in this deserted anchorage. We wondered why no one else was anchored here. Well, around 9:00 at night the wind picked up and blew directly into our once calm anchorage. Before long, short period 2 foot waves were building and really rocking the boat. We had a rough and somewhat sleepless night. Once the sun rose I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. We pulled our anchor and headed for our next stopover (hopefully a calmer one).
