Point of departure, or so we thought

20 April 2009 | Kuna Yala (San Blas Islands), Panama

According to all the navigational guide books, Provenir Island had an airstrip with daily flights to the mainland. Good thing we did not wait until the last minute to verify. We cruised over to the island to buy a couple of tickets only to find the airstrip was closed for repairs and not expected to open until next year or so (there is no concept of the 'New York minute in San Blas). So, being the laid back travelers we had become, we bought a couple of beers, paid for two panga reservations for travel to a neighboring island where their is an airport and a daily flight out at 6AM, and enjoyed our last two peaceful nights aboard Four Points with our good friends!

Nancy & I have been planning to go sailing for years. We are not ready to retire but decided to take this trip before we get to old. Sailing takes a lot of energy and commitment so we didnt want to wait until we cant physically handle the trip. [...]
