The SAWDIS (S.A. Weather and Disaster Information Service) Internet based weather service provides all sorts of weather data for South Africa. The data is provided by South African volunteers with internet access.
A basic setup is an inexpensive automatic weather sampling station providing data via the internet to the SAWDIS website. This information is then publically available for free on the internet to all interested customers. A link to this data could then be put up here on the club website.
If the club wants to put up a webcam of the dam in the future, an automatic weather station like this might be a good start using low bandwidth.
See the SAWDIS website here and also read about a daring rescue of South African yachties near Brazil. Note that you do NOT need to be an Amateur Radio operator to run a SAWDIS station. You only need internet access.
