Daily Chores

17 November 2010 | South Atlantic Ocean
Supper time with Snacks and Sundowners

After settling in to the voyage and finding their sea legs, the crew are happier to carry out some of the chores they were hating at first. But hey! they have to be done and one person doing it all will only get annoyed and complain so the work load has to be shared.

There are various daily chores which have to be carried out in order to have a 'happy boat'. Duties like cooking and cleaning as I always insist on a clean and tidy boat. Now, not all crew are experienced in this department and I'm being serious here... There are people out there that cannot boil an egg!! The mind boggles but hence the many fast food outlets world wide. So if I'm lucky enough to take on such a crew member, they are assigned the wash up duties that follows all food preperation and meals and also includes keeping the galley spotlessly clean and tidy. In return I do their cooking duties as I enjoy a good meal out on the ocean... fresh fish is my favourite dish and always good.

Another imperative duty which falls on the person doing the 6am watch is to 'bucket down' the cockpit every day. For some bizarre reason humans shed hair at an alarming rate which needs disposing of. Another duty which falls within that watch is to ensure that generous mugs of fresh hot coffee are ready when the others wake up. Coffee is a good and enjoyable way to kick start the day! We later have a hearty breakfast which varies daily.

For lunch we have a big cooked meal in the middle of the day which is sometimes followed by a gentle afternoon snooze for the crew who are off duty. Evenings are sorted with a light supper of 'left overs' which are creatively transformed into a delicious supper served with snacks and 'sundowners'.
