What a difference a potluck makes vs a paid sit down dinner. I'm comparing Mazatlan's paid dinner with our potluck in Barra. For those of you who did'nt ge the scoop on Thanksgiving dinner in Mazatlan, lets just say for a $23 meal we experienced a manufactured turkey roll. the cruisers and the band/music was nice, but... Because everybody contributed to the Christmas potluck, it was sooo much more enjoyable and outright delicious. There was so much variety...desserts that I have never seen before, and so many side dishes..dressing, mashed potatoes, scalloped potatoes, 3 or 4 rice dishes, sweet potatoes a couple different ways, veggy dishes multiple versions, and of course turkeys and 2 delicious smoked hams. Now, I've seen the hams they sell in Mexico and these were not those. All my worrying over the turkeys being prepared right was for naught. They were perfect and she added ingredients to the stuffing that I did not have time to get and it came out perfect. I had to load up 2 turkeys in the dinghy and transport them to the Sands Hotel where the shindig was held. Then I carved the turkeys along with 2 more breasts and the hams. Oh yeah, at the last minute the night before I had to prepare(cook) a turkey breast and 2 drumsticks that a marina cruiser brought over. My camera broke on me at the dinner of all places..so I only got this one shot when we were setting up. I have a fellow cruiser sending me 3 more shots later. This morning on the net they went into this big thing about how great it was that I did the turkeys and there was all these clicks on the radio..thats cruisers applauding.
