Turn Right, Young Man, Turn Right!

As we sail into the Rias de Muros it looks so beautiful. We are even greeted upon arrival into the river by dolphins. Fabulous! Their timing is impeccable but they don't stay long (probably far too busy to play...lots more yachts to greet!) Anyway, their company was delightful. It makes us go all gooey for nature because...I don't know...they are just so...cute...and so close...you feel you could reach out and touch them. Livin' the dream...Livin' the dream!

Oh goody! Portosin has a really smart yacht club. And GREAT SHOWERS!!!

We meet John, who is from the 43ft Oyster, "Ostrica", berthed nearby. He and his wife Jean have been living aboard, sailing all over the world for the last 14 years! They are at the end of their adventure now but their boat looks in great shape after travelling for so long. John tells us they have recently had it re-sprayed in South Africa for a very good price (half the cost compared to UK prices).

We talk for a while about this and that but especially downwind tactics. He suggests a block on the boom to improve our poling out technique for the foresail. Thank you. Great tip!

The other piece of advice he gives us is: "Turn right, not left." That is, avoid the Mediterranean. Go to the Caribbean. Of course, I would love to go to the Caribbean but there is the 'not so small' matter of crossing the Atlantic Ocean. This would require about 25 days at sea with NO LAND WHATSOEVER. I'm not sure if I'm ready for this yet. Still, a seed is sown.

We eat out tonight. We have the recommended "Special BBQ Fish for Two". When it arrives, I think, "What! They must have sent a trawler out for just this plateful!" I count 14 fillets of fish. Just fish! (Oh, I do later discover about 5 slices of boiled potato underneath. I don't think the Spanish are big on vegetables!) Hake, Turbot and Bass. The fish is all delicious but there is just soooo much of it! We eat until we have fish coming out of our ears but still don't manage to eat everything. So, now I really hope:

1. Captain Wurzel Sparrow doesn't get to hear about this. 2. Captain Wurzel Sparrow doesn't have any Spanish fisherman friends.

Yea. Otherwise it's going to be like Captain Abraham and Moby Dick all over again. Only now, we're that flippin' white whale.

Next stop Bayona.
