Birthday in CHarleston
08 November 2012 | Charleston, SC mm470
Change of plan yesterday once we got underway. Intially, we planned on dropping the anchor about 20 miles north of Charleston, then arrive on Thursday morning at Charleston City Marina. We always like to spend at least a couple days here to visit the city as well as get some provisioning and laundry done. When we leave here, we will go 'outside' (ocean) and do an overnight sail to Fernandina, FL. We thought a Saturday/Sunday timeframe would be good for getting to Fernandina, but yesterday morning it looked like a Friday/Saturday will have more settled weather. SO...we pushed on into Charleston yesterday and will leave here tomorrow morning and arrive in Fernandina Saturday morning.
Last night, Freddie on Flyer took us out for dinner...he's been happy to be able to follow us down the ICW and wanted to buy us dinner. Who are we to say 'no'. We went to an Irish pub and listened to some great music...fun time. Today we plan on heading into the city and have a drink to Alan (today is his 57th birthday), possibly meeting with Mark and Julie, boatfriends that happen to be at a marina nearby. Later we'll prepare the boat for the offshore hop, then it'll be early to bed.
The temps look a little better down in Florida, so hopefully we will be catching up with the warmth. We have plans to be in New Smyrna for Thanksgiving, so we are ready to put on the brakes and start enjoying ourselves.
