We spent Thursday exploring Charleston yet again, but we never tire of this City. The section of the city referred to as South of Broad is lined with the old homes that have been restored to their pre-civil war condition. Almost all of the homes are narrow along the street, with porches along one side. Next to the porch is a gateway that leads to beautifully landscaped patios. For city living, this looks pretty nice!

Waiting for the shuttle to get back to the marina, we stopped at the Southend Brewery...

We left Charleston Friday morning about 9:30..waiting for the current to slack so we could get out of the marina. It was a windless ride, with small iratating waves for a few hours, but the seas flatten before nightfall, and all was well. The moon was just a sliver that didn't rise til about 4am, so the night sky was filled with stars...incredible.

During the afternoon, we had an amazing dolphin show. About a half dozen of them were playing in our bow wake. The water was so clear we could see them twisting and turning below the surface, then they would jump out of the water and belly flop back down. This happened again about 2 oclock in the morning. Alan was on watch, and it scared the heck out of him when he saw splashes all around the bow until he realized what it was. They were jumping clear out of the water...just having a grand time.

We arrived at Cumberland Island National seashore about 9am. We anchored next to a couple of boats that we met in the Bahamas. We were invited over for sundowners later in the day.

Today we went to shore and walked the beautiful trails that criss-cross the island. Huge live oak trees draped with spanish moss cover the interior of the island, while the shoreline is 18 miles of uninterrupted beach...with no one on it! From charlestoncumberland
I told Al I would like to see some wild horses on the beach...and lo and behold!

The beach was cover with shells and dead horseshoe crabs...thousands!
