Back in Tahiti after 13 days
14 May 2018 | Tahiti
We're dealing with a generator that runs fine for 30 to 40 minutes then stops producing the 120 volts and fails. Which now has caused our water maker to fail. Monday a part should be shipped from the USA, if it fixes the issue we'll be on our way to rejoin the ARC. If not, plan B. I have made a crew commitment to Blue Pearl and told all other boats to call me in July if they wanted to know my status. So hopefully, the generator is fixable, cause if it’s a $18K replacement I'm not sure what the owner will do. Anyhow, I've stated that I'll stay aboard as long as I'm invited. Not sure if the term "stuck in Tahiti" is valid or I should say I get an extended stay in Tahiti.
Well the 13 days of cruising were fantastic, visiting 4 islands, diving 5 times, and snorkeling 5 times. After leaving Tahiti on the 30th we made our way to Huahine - the least developed island in the Leeward Islands of the Society Islands. Pure natural beauty, magical with green mountains and secluded bays. This one I could hang my hat and call home (maybe, if not Tahaa). After 4 nights and three different anchorages we made our way 25 miles west to Raiatea & Tahaa are enclosed by the same coral reef. Tahaa less developed and some of the best snorkeling yet. Raiatea having the second largest city, Uturoa, to Papeete had no traffic signals, but I think a couple stop signs, 2 gas stations, 3 markets and a slew of gift shops. We dove a wreck in Raiatea, a schooner that sunk in 1900, pretty awesome, would of been better if there hadn't been so much rain runoff in the water. I thought the raining season had past, but May seems to have its share of thundershowers, 2 to 4 per day, lasting up to 1 hour. I suppose it's required to keep the hillsides so green and the million and one mosquitoes alive. Yes, we made it to Bora Bora, had lunch and cocktails at the Yacht Club, got some laundry done. Filled our water tanks and sailed overnight back to Tahiti. Brita and I did get in a couple dives Friday morning where we saw Lemon Sharks and Manta Rays, very kool.
