It's Official

It's a sad but good thing, we no longer own GHOST. She is now owned by an architect in Sydney who has plans of sailing the South Pacific once again.

Reality bites!!

It's been a while since we updated the blog. Apologies for that but we've been busy fighting off the onslaught of reality, not really wanting to admit it's over! After arriving it was the welcome party in Sydney, followed by a hectic week of moving ALL our personal stuff off GHOST. On a side note, it [...]

GHOST for sale!

Well it's sad news but GHOST is now officially up for sale!

Welcome to Sydney GHOST

Well it was a brilliantly sunny day as we set off from Pittwater in GHOST, entering the Sydney heads about lunchtime. It was a pretty emotional sail through this iconic harbour which Brad has envisaged sailing into as long as he's dreamt of sailing home to Australia. Soon we were pulling up to the [...]

Diving in Bonaire (a lot!)

26 February 2010 | Bonaire
Kat
Since our arrival on Tuesday we've dived 2-3 times a day at some of the 80 or so dive sites around the island. It's especially good because all the dive sites are marked with buoys so you can easily tie up the dingy to the marker buoy and head on down. As most of the dives are on the reef fringing the island navigation is really easy - up is shore and down heads out into the sea!

Today we decided to tackle a site called "Hilma Hooker" which was a boat done for drug smuggling and purposely sunk in 1984 - the wreck rests on its starboard side in 30m of water. Unfortunately Chris's ear was still sore today (now diagnosed by the doctor as due to an inner ear squeeze) and Brad and I were diving with Nik from Espermandu (a Finnish boat we met on the ARC) who we have caught up with here in Bonaire. The dive was good, the wreck a nice change from coral and fish and there were some massive fish which we initially mistook for sharks!

After the wreck dive Brad and I headed back to the site of our first dive "Something Special" which we really enjoyed as the coral is good and the fish plentiful, we just did a shallow dive so that we could play with our latest toy - an underwater camera which goes down to 50m. The camera is great and makes the dive even more fun.... check out the picture of Brad and I behind the propeller of the wreck! Tonight we are going to head back to the same site for our first night dive - very exciting!

Chris will hopefully be back on diving tomorrow so we'll make the most of the morning diving and maybe explore the island a little in the afternoon before heading off to Curacao on Sunday to get the boat lifted on Monday to change the cracked rudder bearing.
