It's Official

It's a sad but good thing, we no longer own GHOST. She is now owned by an architect in Sydney who has plans of sailing the South Pacific once again.

Reality bites!!

It's been a while since we updated the blog. Apologies for that but we've been busy fighting off the onslaught of reality, not really wanting to admit it's over! After arriving it was the welcome party in Sydney, followed by a hectic week of moving ALL our personal stuff off GHOST. On a side note, it [...]

GHOST for sale!

Well it's sad news but GHOST is now officially up for sale!

28 November 2010 | Sydney Harbour, Australia

Welcome to Sydney GHOST

Well it was a brilliantly sunny day as we set off from Pittwater in GHOST, entering the Sydney heads about lunchtime. It was a pretty emotional sail through this iconic harbour which Brad has envisaged sailing into as long as he's dreamt of sailing home to Australia. Soon we were pulling up to the [...]

Sun and Sea in the San Blas

20 March 2010 | Lemmon Cays, San Blas
Kat
We have continued our cruise through the San Blas, making the most of this idyllic place. After a few days of enjoying the beautiful Holandes islands and the weekly Monday cruiser pot luck get-together, followed by a few days of kite surfing and wake boarding in the Coco Banderas islands, we headed down to Isla Tigre on which the Kuna settlement is supposed to be the most unchanged to get a better understanding of the Kuna people. We were welcomed by children paddling dugout canoes and walked around the immaculate town with it's palm leaf-covered huts and friendly people - all of the children wanted to have their photo taken which was really fun. I couldn't resist buying a couple of molas, the hand embroidered squares which each take 3-days each to make! After wandering around for a while we found a little bar where we had a couple of local beers, tasted the local cuisine and sat back to soak up the atmosphere with boats Sunboy and High Five.

Running a little low on supplies we then headed to one of the larger settlements, Nargana. The guidebook reported a small shop and that you could get internet access in the school but when asked they replied "Not at the moment, maybe next month"! We were now a stone's throw from the mainland and were missing the clear waters of the outer islands so decided to head west to the next island group so that we could swim again, and anchored behind Green island. This was one of our favorite places with pelicans swooping into the water and a nice walk around the island.

As forecast the weather changed the following day and we took advantage of the stronger winds for a speedy sail across to Lemmon Cays and after a careful entrance between the coral reefs dropped anchor. Jay braved the rain squalls and spent the afternoon developing his kite surf technique - he is definitely spending more time out of the water now! Some Kuna dropped by and sold us 3 fish (jacks) for dinner, Jay decided it was his turn to filet them and I experimented with a new coconut milk recipe which was a big success. Today looks like another rainy day but we're hoping it will clear later - oh well it makes you appreciate the sunshine even more!
