It's Official

It's a sad but good thing, we no longer own GHOST. She is now owned by an architect in Sydney who has plans of sailing the South Pacific once again.

Reality bites!!

It's been a while since we updated the blog. Apologies for that but we've been busy fighting off the onslaught of reality, not really wanting to admit it's over! After arriving it was the welcome party in Sydney, followed by a hectic week of moving ALL our personal stuff off GHOST. On a side note, it [...]

GHOST for sale!

Well it's sad news but GHOST is now officially up for sale!

28 November 2010 | Sydney Harbour, Australia

Welcome to Sydney GHOST

Well it was a brilliantly sunny day as we set off from Pittwater in GHOST, entering the Sydney heads about lunchtime. It was a pretty emotional sail through this iconic harbour which Brad has envisaged sailing into as long as he's dreamt of sailing home to Australia. Soon we were pulling up to the [...]

Lazy long "Greek" weekend.

07 June 2009 | Perdika, Aigina, Greece
Brad
Not much to report. Had a couple of lazy days on Poros. Bit of swimming, went ashore to collect a few emails at the local water ski school and got chatting to an Aussie (Andy) that works there during the season. Andy came over to the boat for a BBQ that night and a few beers. Good to chat about home and hear a bit of news.

We took the dinghy into Poros for a wander and some shopping the next day. Pretty crowded place. The motor in via the narrow channel the previous day was really quite special, they say it is one of the best arrivals by sea in Greece, but once ashore it was all Athenians that come down for the weekend (in this case a long weekend) to see and be seen. So loads of prima donnas lounging around, fat hairy backs and shoulders out, loads of old women rudely getting in your way. So we did our bit and escaped back around to our little bay. In the arvo we serviced one of our winches which was a bit of an exercise never having been done before the other three are a job for another day. Kat made a yummy banana loaf as she works her way through some of the recipes my Mum and Auntie Jill sent, thanks guys!!

Today was a short 12 mile motor to the south coast of the island of Aigina and a little town of Perdika. This place that seems pretty popular with little rented RIBs and smaller motor cruisers from Athens. We've chosen to anchor, as there is loads of confusion in the harbour with the occasional boat rubbing onto another and more than a few heated words in Greek. The funniest bit is watching the women. They sit back for a bit, saying nothing, then finally when they've had enough they explode and just go for it! Then nobody seems able to stop'em! There was a water boat (many smaller Greek islands with little rainfall are serviced by old rusty water tankers that top up the water supply every day or so) here when we arrived. About 45mins ago they said they wanted us to move when they left, to give them space to turn. Although it was a waste of time as they never came anywhere near us we thought it polite to honour their request. The anchor is back down now so it is time to grab a beer, a comfy cushion and sit up on deck and watch the show as the charter boats come in, go out, come in, hit a boat, go out, come in, narrowly miss a boat then finally get a line ashore! I know we shouldn't as we too were charters like that once (but surely never that bad), but it is amusing from afar!
