It's Official

It's a sad but good thing, we no longer own GHOST. She is now owned by an architect in Sydney who has plans of sailing the South Pacific once again.

Reality bites!!

It's been a while since we updated the blog. Apologies for that but we've been busy fighting off the onslaught of reality, not really wanting to admit it's over! After arriving it was the welcome party in Sydney, followed by a hectic week of moving ALL our personal stuff off GHOST. On a side note, it [...]

GHOST for sale!

Well it's sad news but GHOST is now officially up for sale!

Welcome to Sydney GHOST

Well it was a brilliantly sunny day as we set off from Pittwater in GHOST, entering the Sydney heads about lunchtime. It was a pretty emotional sail through this iconic harbour which Brad has envisaged sailing into as long as he's dreamt of sailing home to Australia. Soon we were pulling up to the [...]

Goodbye to Athens and the Cyclades

11 June 2009 | Athens
Kat
So after some requests - here are some piccys of the funky LED's around the saloon and galley.

We finally got the new sail bag at 6pm this evening - it fits very well and is no longer sufficient to house a small family AND their pets so we are very pleased. The plan is to stock up on food tomorrow before heading off towards the Corinth Canal.

Athens has been a pleasant surprise, I think because all of the guides went on about how dirty, busy and crowded it is, and when Brad was last he it was. Yes it is very crowded but we have found it quite clean compared to expectations and were impressed with the new metro lines built for the Olympics, in addition as we are tucked around a corner with long-term boats we have found Zea Marina relatively quiet and secure. Poor GHOST does look lost in this marina though. For the first time her mast looks small and spindly compared to some of the monster boats here. And to add insult to injury there was another boat called GHOST, an 80 odd foot Wally, stunning boat. But we know we had the name first!!

Overall the Cycladic islands were better than expected - there was plenty of wind at times but we had great forecasts so took shelter and then set off when we were ready (except for one day which was a bit hairy but only because we haven't sailed for ages!). We've visited some great museums and volcanoes and had a good time either anchored up or not paying much at all moored up to a town quay, with plenty of charter boat antics to keep us entertained. We've also managed to continue with a few jobs on GHOST - today we changed the washers on the vang (an intimidating job but now we are happy we know how to do it) and Brad also fitted me a fan so we can have one each, LUXURY!
