Pootles on La Gioconda

The Road to Agen. A tale of Aquaducts and Prunes. (with Ninja aquaducks thrown in for good measure.)

Time had come to say goodbye to friends at Buzet. Drink the last bottle of Buzet wine, caste off the lines and head south. A cold Aquitaine day, temperature not much above 29C but luckily had packed the furs so could donate them to shivering locals. We had planned a stop at Serignac but the quay side was full of British long boats and peniches, force to moor 'au sauvage' on the otherside of the river by the overgrown bank. Luckily a Frenchman descended from his boat and came to help us.. " Oh... hein..... zut alors.... mon dieu......I'm the only Frenchman 'ere" (google translate). Lunch taken we decided to head for Agen some 5 miles away. This was to be a two aquaduct day. The first really just a pont canal over the river Baise but the second the spectacular 26 arch aquaduct over the Garonne and real scenic to boot. The Agen end was guarded by the Presidential Corps of Aquaduck Patrol. Luckily they decided that we were not a threat to the prune capital of Aquitaine (honest!) and they let us through to pick up a mooring in the rather beautiful Port de Agen.
