A very hot Dave.
Venusian temperatures, wine, extra-mural activities (no not that, too hot) and a lack of decent Wifi have all contributed to a lack of reliable reporting for the last week. So today's mission, should I decide to accept it, is to make up for this editorial lack.
Moissac, looked interesting in the guides, would it be, if it was, would there be room for us to stop there. Yes!!
Delightful port where we were able to moor up under the shade of the ubiquitous plane trees. An interesting town and really outstanding abbey church and cloisters. The abbey of St. Pierre houses some of the finest medieval carvings to be seen in France (see facebook album). The west door was magnificent. We had a very special late evening dessert on the terrace of one of the restaurants on the square overlooking the abbey. A day later, traditional Occitaine music entertainingly performed in the same square whilst sipping the occasional "pression".
The canal locks into the river Tarn at Moissac. A broad, clean, beautiful piece of waterway. Descending from the town one can sit at a river side café enjoying the vista. (see facebook album).
A night on the town at
Castelsarrasin. July 14th Bank holiday, celebration of the storming of the Bastille to liberate one prisoner and many sacks of flour. (eat cake indeed, we want our bagettes!)
So we joined the rest of the town and a good part of the neighbouring countryside to a traditional "sardinage" run for and by the local sapeurs pompieres, a firework display and free ball. Nice little town with cafes and a good feel to it.
Montech... overnight in pleasant little port.
Grissoles .... Overnight at a quayside .... more Australians in boats!!!!
