Galapagos Arrival
20 March 2010 | San Cristobal, Galapagos
We've arrived in the Galapagos after a comfortable six day passage. It felt so good to be back at sea again after our sabbatical of being at anchor for months. Dolphins accompanied us at various times as we set out for open ocean. The days were filled with blue skies & seas as far as the eye could view, while the night time sky was filled with glittering stars. We had a few days of good wind to start with, but it got lighter and lighter the closer we got to the islands. Then, seeing the islands rise up onto the horizon was awesome. The sweet smell of flowers, vegetation and moist dirt penetrated the senses. The excitement of our arrival exceeded our tiredness. We dropped anchor in the bay of San Cristobal, checked in with the authorities, went to shore and had a soft swirl ice cream cone, followed by a cheeseburger. Then we turned in early and slept for 10 glorious uninterrupted hours.
We now have almost a month to explore and enjoy these islands, before we set off for the Marquesas. Its hard to believe our last journey measures only a fifth in time & distance of the upcoming journey we'll make to reach French Polynesia. But in the meantime, we'll explore, adventure and report our experiences again before we depart into the Pacific.
