Reached Cabo San Lucas!
20 December 2008 | Cabo!
We've reached Cabo after 900 miles of voyaging and what an adventure it has been.
--Multiple whale sightings including a pod of 5 swimming together.
--Phosphorescent dolphin show as green glitter streaked from their body as they swam below our bow on an evening sail.
--Leaping bat rays at Mag Bay, 4-5ft out of the water with beautiful silk soft sandy dunes in the distance.
--Quiet anchorages with beautiful peeling waves on the the point or nearby reef.
--We caught a 10lb yellowfin tuna, had sashimi & seared it with sesame/black pepper. So delicious!
--A 20 hour sail with the wind vane steering the entire time, allowing us to relax, read, write, watch & most of all enjoy.
--Starry night skies and shooting stars out of the Milky Way to enthrall us while on our night time watches.
--We've reached the latitudes where the albatross fly, their grace is an awesome spectacle.
But then again, there have been some highlights here too. The Cabo point & arch is so beautiful. We kayaked out there from the boat one morning to explore and take it all in. The water is so clear you don't need a mask to see the fish, the scenery is epic and the sea lion barks echo as if it were all a giant cathedral. Also too, its been good to reprovision here and enjoy paletas (a frozen fruit popsicle), fresh fruits & vege's.
But, after 5 weeks of secluded anchorages and small ports, Cabo is like Vegas meets Baja. It is a COMPLETE shock to the senses. After just two days at anchor here, we were worn out by the relentless buzzing jet skis, parasail boats zipping by too close, water taxis, competing sound systems from beach bars, booze-cruises with blaring music & chatter. The anxious feeling to get away set in quickly.
So the next morning during Cabo's most peaceful hour, we raised anchor at 3am and slipped away for the Sea of Cortez. Next post, our Christmas recap. Hope you all are doing great, and that the holiday season has been wonderful.
