CAPE HAITEN, Haiti -Victor Mooney, 49, of Queens, New York recovered The Spirit of Malabo and the vessel will now board Haiti Shipping Lines to Florida. Miami based Spencer Boat Company is on standby to repair Mooney’s boat and so he can complete the final 1,500 mile row to New York.
At the end of October, Mooney was robbed by pirates off the coast of Tortue Island, while heading home. The rower successfully crossed the Atlantic Ocean in June after three failures. Mooney’s journey was in honor of his brother who died of AIDS 1983 and designed to encourage voluntary HIV testing.
