We all know the old adages, Proverbs, mantras, or sayings – like render unto Caesar (during our favorite month of the year – April), raise up a child in the way it should go, children are to be seen and not heard, etc. Many are cultural sayings, some come from Confucius, and some come from the Bible, but all are reiterated or expressed either with a grain of salt or with absolute assurance that the saying is true. Being on the water, we are particularly attuned to the weather, so the saying “red sky in the morning, sailor take warning; red sky at night, sailor’s delight” seems especially worth noting. (In case you want to know, that one (sort of) does come from the Bible – See Mathew 16:2 “When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.' "And in the morning, 'There will be a storm today, for the sky is red and threatening.'”) When we were en route to Marathon, FL just before Christmas, we departed an anchorage off the west coast of Florida (in the Everglades Park) just before dawn and watched the sun rise. It was a magnificent sky – very deep in color – and sure enough, we had rain before the day was through.
So, when a wife makes a point, it just might be worthwhile paying attention; she may be onto something.
