Haven't Been Around Until You've Been Aground
31 May 2011 | Boot Key Harbor, Marathon, FL
Interesting day. Small Craft Advisory on the Ocean and a Small Craft Caution on the Gulf side and a sun shower started our day. With a brisk wind at our stern, we made great tme to the bridge South of Marathon. Once past the bridge the Ocean greeted us with 26kts of wind and a good chop. Splish splash, we slugged our way to the entrance of Boot Key Harbor. Known as a RV park for boats, the area certainly lived up to its name; moorings and marinas everywhere. Following the diections we eased up the harbor to Sombrero Dockside Marina. Apparently we didn't follow directions to the letter and plowed onto the "lump" just before we reached our dock. A sandy bottom scrubbed the barnacles from the keel, while we had a couple of "cold ones", waited for the tide to rise, and suffered the good natured jabs from the patrons at the dockside bar. Some very interesting characters sailed by as well.
