Concussion- A head banger's downfall

David Holdsworth | Flat but gale coming
Running well ahead of a pending gale, we had a great day sail from Dover to Ramsgate. At least I did. Later I was to discover that Chris did not seem to remember much. He slept a lot and complained of being queasy.
Once alongside in Ramsgate we were both knackered (tired!) and turned in early. I awoke the next morning to discover Chris sleeping on a bench on the harbour wall. Even the slight movement of the pontoon in the flat calm (see photo) made him sick and he could not return to the boat. With a gale on the way it was time to seek help so he was packed off in a taxi to the local hospital , where an emergency CT scan of his head revealed that he had concussion. Ooops. As little else of any significance was found to be holding his ears apart they gave him some anti-sickness pills and he was able to return onboard and sleep. Alls well etc, gave us both a fright and big thanks to Mike McKimm for volunteering to step in at short notice if needed.
