Cove Point
10 August 2015
Because we do not all get out on the Chesapeake to see the many wonders it has to offer, I wanted to share a facility just off of the Solomans known as Cove Point.
Those of us who have sailed in this area for a while know it better as the LNG facility off Solomon's near the Calvert Cliffs.
It is owned by Dominion and is an import and storage facility for Liquified Natural Gas. It has a storage capacity of 14.6 billion cubic feet of gas. The estimate is that there would be enough gas stored at that facility to heat 150,000 homes for about a year.
The plan for Domion is to turn this now to an export and liquefaction facility with committments from Japan and India to purchase the facility's production.
While the picture is not the best quality, you can see how massive the facility is with the docks that can take two ships at a time and the seven large holding tanks.
