Well.....we made it.....that is the short of it. With a record (for us) of seventy eight miles down the ICW from Morehead City we arrived late last evening. I stress late because it was dark anchoring which made for the not so perfect anchorage.
With several attempts at dropping the hook at Banks Channel, we picked her up and headed into a little cove off Motts Channel with no recorded depths but we we getting readings of 10 1/2 to 12 feet. A gentleman yelled from shore in the wind that we would run out of water. We felt we had no other choice. Like a well seasoned captain, Greg sat watch as the winds were kicking in at 30 knots. Sitting at anchor in 30 knot winds is an experience we won't soon forget.
We still had depth this morning but with the storm we were told that the water depths were high so while we had water......we were not sure how long it would last.
We picked up anchor yet again and headed back to Banks Channel while the wind was not as brisk and we had daylight. Successful at getting the hook set, the captain and first mate are enjoying a Bloody Mary and will soon be taking a nap!
