The Buck Stops
30 October 2015
At Bucksport, South Carolina. What a day we had covering close to seventy miles of the ICW and the worst part of it that is known as The Rockpile.
So we crossed the North Carolina border into South Carolina, got to see some more gorgeous homes and many a golf course as we motored our way down this narrow channel.
The Rockpile while seeming treacherous, if you keep in the middle of the channel and stay alert of oncoming traffic, you are fine.....just stay to the center.
We again met up with our new found friends from Montreal and stopped with them at a lovely little place called Bucksport Marina. While it may not have the linen napkins or other frills of nicer marinas, it had something more special than that to us.
We met the manager of the marina and his son Jeffrey. Jeffrey is originally from Stauton and was a champion wrestler at his local high school. He attended VMI and went on to serve his country in the Army National Guard. Jeffrey drove us all to a lovely quaint seafood restaurant where all the locals go and shared dinner with us.
He shared his story with us of his injuries that were not brought about by a bullet or grenade or anything we read about in the paper today. No Jeffrey was injured on a motorcycle in a freak accident that left his parents with that decision that is sometimes so difficult to make. They decided to fight for his life and not pull the plug after he had flat lined twice. Jeffrey is alive today telling joke after joke and a giving a huge piece of himself to lend a hand to those in need.
What a treasure find! Thank you to the kind folks at Bucksport!
As you can see from the photo, Chewie is still maintaining his watch for debris or other intrusions as we come through the canal.
We are having a grand time!
