Long Island - Thompson Bay
28 February 2016
While I am sure there are some more beautiful pictures to be taken, our first dinghy ride here in Long Island led us to the Esso station to get gasoline for the dinghy and this is what we saw. Struck by Hurricane Joaquin, this island is hurting to get ready for their big money maker.....their June Regatta. The regatta's for all of these islands bring cruisers from all around to race, eat and spend a little money doing other stuff.
Our friends went out on a work detail yesterday and said they found it rewarding as they listened to this gentlemen tell them about what damage had been done and what needed to be done to get up to par for the regatta.
The first three buildings here in the harbor were restaurants and/or bars and now they are just shells. The docks are torn up and they have so little that when they are tearing down what is left, they are removing the nails and straightening them out so that they can use them again. We have it so good.
Well, today being Sunday, there is the net at 8:15 and then church followed by an afternoon of chores and then bocce ball and appetizers at 4:30 on the beach.
We will stay and do some work Monday with the crew and head out Tuesday for Hogg Cay and stage to leave for Cat Island on Wednesday and then on to the north we hope as the winds will start clocking in our favor.
